Local people from East London worked with digital:works to create a short film to explore and develop their knowledge and understanding of Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism.
Brick Lane is a film created by a range of people from different backgrounds and cultures who live, volunteer or study around Brick Lane. Volunteers and young people from St Hilda's East Community Centre and Spitalfields City Farm came together to work on a short animation film exploring the religious history of Brick Lane. They met for 6 weeks at various religious and historical venues in and around London's vibriant east end and interviewed people in the local area and each other, where they learnt about different religions and varied views. The participants also drew the subjects to provide anonimity and filmed the backgrounds.
The "Brick Lane" film was part of a wider project, Faiths United, funded by the Home Office to promote community cohesion between Muslim and Christian faith groups in the local area. Faiths United has also run inter-faith art sessions at St Hilda's East Community Centre and has brought together Christian and Muslim faith leaders in the Weavers Ward area.
The resulting animation film, "Brick Lane", was sent out to all Primary schools in Tower Hamlets to be used as a teacher's tool for RE lessons.
This project explores who we are, where we've come from and where we're going - as individuals and as communities.
Our Working Lives explores how work patterns have changed from the 20th to the 21st century. It uses the Poole/Parkstone area as a launching pad to investigate people's memories of leaving school and entering the workforce between 1945 and 1950. The project compares this to the present day by interviewing people about their situation now.
