{"id":710,"date":"2013-05-14T12:08:58","date_gmt":"2013-05-14T12:08:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digital-works.co.uk\/news\/?page_id=710"},"modified":"2013-07-24T15:55:45","modified_gmt":"2013-07-24T15:55:45","slug":"going-underground","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/digital-works.co.uk\/news\/going-underground\/","title":{"rendered":"Going Underground"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vimeo]http:\/\/vimeo.com\/70429677[\/vimeo]<br \/>\nIn 1863 the world&#8217;s very first underground line was opened to passengers travelling from Paddington to Farringdon in London. <a href=\"https:\/\/digital-works.co.uk\">digital:works<\/a> have been working with two primary schools, one near <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gatewayprimary.co.uk\/\">Paddington<\/a> and another near <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stgeorge.camden.sch.uk\/\">Farringdon<\/a> to chart the 150 year history of the London Underground from that first passenger journey to today.<\/p>\n<p>They worked with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westminster.gov.uk\/services\/libraries\/archives\/\">Westminster Archives<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.camden.gov.uk\/ccm\/navigation\/leisure\/local-history\/\">Camden Local Studies and Archive Centre<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ltmuseum.co.uk\/\">London Transport Museum<\/a> to study the history of that period and then conducted oral history filmed interviews with retired and current workers on the tube and passengers. They also did some creative writing for a booklet and exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>A dedicated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goingunderground.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a> hosts the young people&#8217;s work including some of the full interviews they undertook, their final edited film and their writing, both historical and creative.
