It is estimated that over a thousand people live afloat on the Thames between Teddington Lock and the Thames Barrier. These floating villages have a rich and, until now, untold history.
digital:works’ oral history film documentary of life on the Thames was launched with a special screening at Watermans Arts Centre on 31st August 2016 alongside an exhibition and a live performance by Bloch Eyot who provided the music for the film.
Based on photography, archive research and oral history interviews, the exhibition draws together the past and the present, tracking the evolution of houseboat life on one of the world’s most vibrant rivers.
