On Friday 24th January 2020 we launched our film ‘Escaping the Blitz’ at the BFI to a packed house – in fact we had to set up an alternative viewing screen to cover the overflow!
Children from the two schools we worked with: St Thomas’ and Furzedown Primary Schools introduced the project and the work they did towards it and read out some of their creative writing. Following the screening of the film there was a Q&A with some of the film-makers and the evacuees that were interviewed for the project.
Then, following the thanks yous and speeches from Mark Reid, BFI Education Officer, and Lee Wickes, Year 6 teacher at Furzedown Primary School, the audience joined the children in a rendition of Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’.
We then enjoyed a couple of hours with the interviewees and their companions over coffee at the BFI to debrief and feedback on the project as a whole and their involvement in it.
You can now watch the film and listen to the full interviews on the project website: http://www.londonevacuees.org.uk/
