Beale and Inman master tailors, dressed London from New Bond Street for over 150 years, from circa 1828 to 1980. This project aims to conserve and celebrate the legacy of Beale and Inman and their archives by engaging local communities through fashion, heritage and sustainability. Digital-works is engaged in documenting this through oral history interviews, interviews with conservators and those involved in a collaboration between SEN and London College of Fashion students who are being introduced to the textile industry through practical experience in design and sustainable practices.
The project was commissioned by City of Westminster Archives as part of their larger National Lottery Heritage Funded project.
We are involved in two parts of the project. Firstly, to document SEN students participation in a project with the London College of Fashion to create clothing from the 'first stitch'. Secondly, to document the history of Beale and Inman through oral history interviews and the digitisation of archive material.
